The original SBC Outpost was started in April 2005 as an blog with “thoughts and discussion about the future of the Southern Baptist Convention.” After a few months of random posting of opinion and typically goofy blog stuff, a couple of stories broke across the SBC and Outpost became a leading source for “alternative” news, that is, either stories Baptist Press would not carry or opinion columns that were not being written. It also hosted ongoing discussion of ideas as to how the convention could be strategically improved by realignment, a reduction in size, revival or any combination of the above. The original SBC Outpost was hated in some quarters and loved in others.

In June of 2007, the original iteration of SBC Outpost went dark. I felt the blog revolution had reached the limits of what it could accomplish and knew for sure that I had. The Outpost went through two other periods of management before being closed down for good, at least considering its original intentions. Even the url was forwarded to another blog of Southern Baptist interest.

This version of SBC Outpost is being designed for two purposes: as an information source for contacting national/state entities, agencies and schools as well as a site where travel plans can be made for conventions, meetings, mission trips, personal travel or even vacations. Commissions made from the travel section will go to support the site and to help provide a source of income for the operator, Marty Duren.

Thanks for stopping by SBC Outpost.
